Cut To The Chase Film Festival is gearing up for next year’s festival and we are excited to announce the judges for the 2014 event which will be begin with our Premiere Celebration on July 11th where guests will have the opportunity to meet this year’s judges, filmmakers and community supporters. Our judges for this year’s event our Hali Taylor award winning Photographer, Lawrence Combo, Producer, Director and Filmmaker and John Nakashima, Filmmaker and who was recently chosen as WV Filmmaker of the year.


Chase Film Festival is a short film festival. There are no budget restrictions; your film is made specifically for Cut to The Chase Film Festival. Films are required to be 8 minutes or less including credits. Entrants must use a key element, which will change annually and does contribute to the intrinsic value of the film’s composition. The Key Element for 2014 is Vice.  Film makers are encouraged to use any device that has the potential to produce a short film. It is our hope that applicants will view Cut to the Chase Film Festival as a platform to empower artists, emerging artists and would-be artists to produce films that stimulate their creative side and engage the audience in the creative expression of film making.


Judges will view the finalist’s films along with the audience on Saturday, July 12th during the evening screening at the Shepherdstown Opera House. After viewing the films, the judges will determine the winner of the Best Film. The winner will receive a cash prize of $500 and custom designed trophy created by Sculptor Scott Cawood. During the festival we will host five screenings at which time we will collect ballots from the audience for their selection of Fan Favorite. The winner of the popular vote will be announced at the final screening on Sunday, July 13 and will receive a cash prize of $250 and along with a trophy. The Letter: 100 Words From Home
Film Maker – Claiborne Lashley
The films depicts the reading of a letter from home to a soldier while progressing through the environs of several different wars, starting with the U.S. Civil War and ending with the first Gulf War in Iraq. The letter contains exactly 100 words, and serves to portray that despite the time or the uniform or the nature of the military conflict, the reason for and the existence of war generates the same hardships and sentiments throughout time.
